  • Diabetes Stage Fright

Imagine this: You are at work and desperately need to do number 2’s. You head to the bathroom inconspicuously and rejoice quietly on the realisation that you’re alone in the bathroom. You’re about to drop the kids off at the pool in peace. At that same moment, someone comes in and uses the stall next you. Read more

  • Expectations

When it comes to my diabetes healthcare team, I am particularly fussy. I won’t settle for someone who won’t engage, provides me with generic advice or interrogates me on that one high BGL two months ago. I don’t spend hundreds of dollars to be guilt-tripped that I haven’t done enough for myself or to feel like a failure. Read more

  • In Loving Memory…

Seeing a close friend’s face on a picture with RIP written on it is never a welcoming sight. A few days ago, I learned about the death of a good friend and fellow Young Leader in Diabetes, Reghunath from type 1 diabetes. The world around me fell deafening silent as I coped with the news. • Lifting the Grey

Being the eldest of three in my family, you could say that I appreciate being independent. However, there are times that I may be overly independent and refuse to share my burden or even talk about it (story of my life at the moment). As a result, I often feel myself slipping into a moody heap Read more

  • National Diabetes Week

National Diabetes Week this year focusses on the prevention of type 2 diabetes through an interesting campaign. Diabetes Australia uses images to represent people’s irrational fears such as clowns, spiders and sharks and compared it to the real and hidden threat of diabetes. So it absolutely made sense that the launch of this campaign was done at the Melbourne Read more

  • Pumping on Diabetes Camp

Last weekend marked a milestone for pumpagotchi and I. We went on a trip that was longer than an overnight stay. We went on a diabetes camp together. That’s four days and three nights away from home. Read more

Welcome to my Bittersweet Diagnosis Blog

When I started this blog in 2011, I never thought it would be going over 10 years later. Writing is my way of reflecting and processing the world around me. Over time, I didn’t realise my stories resonated with others or helped them to learn more about living with diabetes. And so it is the power of sharing stories that keeps me going with this blog.

Initially, I named my blog “Bittersweet Diagnosis” as that is exactly how I feel about my diabetes. Learning to live with a chronic condition as intensive as diabetes has been one of the toughest challenges I’m still navigating. Yet along the way, diabetes has made me grow and develop into a better person, physically and mentally.
