  • Diabetes Advocates Day

I’m not sure where time has gone but it’s now been a couple of weeks since the first Diabetes Advocates Day held by Medtronic in partnership with Diabetes Australia. The day was filled with some exciting updates on diabetes technology. But what made the event worthwhile for me was the insightful, honest and interesting discussions Read more

  • Sticks and stones may break your bones…

…but words will always be there to haunt you. We need to change the way we talk about diabetes.  Read more

  • Pumpversary

    Pumpversary

Three years ago, my life changed when I was received my first insulin pump. The pump has made my diabetes a little easier to manage and my life a little less restrictive. It’s the most expensive thing I possess and every day, I’m thankful to have it. And every year, when this little throwback pops up, I Read more

  • Common Sense and Social Media

Social media is an incredible medium. It’s like man-made mother nature; it can be frightening or it can restore our faith in humanity. The beauty of social media is that we are in control of it. It is up to us to manage what we want to see, what we choose to share and how we Read more

    Being a health advocate

Over the weekend, I attended Australia + New Zealand’s very first Health eVoices Conference. The conference has been running for a few years in the US (where I once received an accidental invite because they thought I lived in Melbourne, Florida. But that’s another story). Health eVoices aims to bring health advocates with an online presence Read more

  • Switching Off The Advocate

My life revolves around diabetes. I live with it, research it and work with it. I can’t think of anything else I’d rather be doing since my diagnosis. Working in healthcare often means teaching others more about the condition they live with and finding ways to empower them to manage their own health. As such, I’m Read more

Welcome to my Bittersweet Diagnosis Blog

When I started this blog in 2011, I never thought it would be going over 10 years later. Writing is my way of reflecting and processing the world around me. Over time, I didn’t realise my stories resonated with others or helped them to learn more about living with diabetes. And so it is the power of sharing stories that keeps me going with this blog.

Initially, I named my blog “Bittersweet Diagnosis” as that is exactly how I feel about my diabetes. Learning to live with a chronic condition as intensive as diabetes has been one of the toughest challenges I’m still navigating. Yet along the way, diabetes has made me grow and develop into a better person, physically and mentally.
