  • My life, MY diabetes, MY choices.

There are many things in life that occur, which we can’t possibly control for or have no influence over. Yet, one thing is for sure though; that each step we take, we have choices and make decisions. I never chose to have diabetes, but I would like to think that I have a choice to Read more

  • Sneaky me, yes I agree!

Remember my nightmare experience where a simple blood test took 3 hours? Today, I got the results back. After waiting over a month for the doctors to ring me about my follow up appointment, I called to ask what was going on. Seems like I have good track record of slipping through the cracks of Read more

  • Australia’s first diabetes social media summit!

In the three years of my diabetes diagnosis, I have to admit that this was my first time participating in World Diabetes Day (WDD) celebrations. In fact it wasn’t until last year that I realised November 14th is World Diabetes Day. If every WDD celebration was like the one just passed, I have definitely been Read more

  • Different Camp, Similar Experiences.

The last two days I was lucky enough to help out at an overnight camp at uni, which falls under a program called the Deakin Engagement and Access Program (DEAP) run by the Access and Equity team. This camp provides schools meeting certain criteria such as being socio-economically disadvantaged or having a low articulation of Read more

  • Second Chances in Health

It’s not often we get a chance to start anew when it comes to our body. With all these new technology and medical breakthroughs emerging, a second chance will soon be off our wish list. Since grade 4, I’ve always worn glasses for my short-sightedness. This probably explains why I was never into ball sports Read more

  • Goodbye Thesis!

Last Friday, before I left uni for the day, I did an amazing thing. I submitted my thesis. *cue victorious music* Despite everything that I have battled this year, I finally made it! Friday marks our absolute finish line with our final presentations to share our findings to our peers and the faculty. I’m sure Read more

Welcome to my Bittersweet Diagnosis Blog

When I started this blog in 2011, I never thought it would be going over 10 years later. Writing is my way of reflecting and processing the world around me. Over time, I didn’t realise my stories resonated with others or helped them to learn more about living with diabetes. And so it is the power of sharing stories that keeps me going with this blog.

Initially, I named my blog “Bittersweet Diagnosis” as that is exactly how I feel about my diabetes. Learning to live with a chronic condition as intensive as diabetes has been one of the toughest challenges I’m still navigating. Yet along the way, diabetes has made me grow and develop into a better person, physically and mentally.
