    Taking Mental Breaks

Diabetes takes up majority of my brain space and my life. There are limited times and places where my diabetes isn’t put on the spotlight. Things have been slightly hectic at the moment with my PhD project, other project works and being on the organising committee for the upcoming Young Leader in Diabetes training in Read more

  • #ADSADEA2015 – Final Reflections and Thoughts

Two years ago, I attended my first conference at the World Diabetes Congress. I had no idea what happened at these events so there was no expectations. Just lots of aimless wandering around exhibition stands and tagging along with friends to various presentations. Fast forward to last week, where I had clear goals of what Read more

  • #ADSADEA2015 – Technology influencing health behaviour

With the first (and only) session I wanted to head to starting at 9am, I had a fabulous sleep in. If only my diabetes would have let me go to bed earlier. But that’s a story for another time. I was excited at this technology symposium I was attending before heading home back to my Read more

  • #ADSADEA2015 – New Diabetes Technology

After a few days of sitting in back to back sessions on research updates, it was nice to have a day with a few gaps. I ended up spending most of the day wandering around the exhibition hall and speaking to many trade stands. Excitingly I also hung around to hear the launch of new Read more

  • #ADSADEA2015 – Day One: Shining a light on young people with diabetes

Day One of the official ADS/ADEA conference has kicked off. I was reminded of how exhausting and overwhelming these conferences can be. There is just so much information that gets hurled at you to remember and use in practice. So here’s my recap for most of the day.  Read more

  • Roche Educators Day 2015 (#RED2015)

Diabetes conferences always leave me with so much to think with. Today I attended the Roche Educator Day – a separate day to the Australian Diabetes Society/Australian Diabetes Educators Association Annual Scientific Meeting (ADS/ADEA ASM). Perhaps it’s because I now have experience working as a healthcare professional or that I’m now more used to conferences, Read more

Welcome to my Bittersweet Diagnosis Blog

When I started this blog in 2011, I never thought it would be going over 10 years later. Writing is my way of reflecting and processing the world around me. Over time, I didn’t realise my stories resonated with others or helped them to learn more about living with diabetes. And so it is the power of sharing stories that keeps me going with this blog.

Initially, I named my blog “Bittersweet Diagnosis” as that is exactly how I feel about my diabetes. Learning to live with a chronic condition as intensive as diabetes has been one of the toughest challenges I’m still navigating. Yet along the way, diabetes has made me grow and develop into a better person, physically and mentally.
