I’m having one of those bad diabetes days. The days where have a jam-packed day filled only to have diabetes come and wipe you out. I hate those days because I spend so much effort trying to get back on track.
It started with a stubborn blood sugar in the teens from yesterday afternoon. I admit, there was a bit of over indulgence that contributed to it.
We had gone out to get a bottle of Worcestershire sauce from the shops, which led to a pit stop at our local ice cream place to get hot gelato (think hot thickshake) and waffles. When we finally made it to the supermarket, I was tempted by freshly made chicken nuggets from the deli (my weakness). Since I could never really come to terms with the amount of carbs chicken nuggets have, I tend to almost always under-bolus for them.

I have the same issue when it comes to mashed potatoes, which made up our Scandinavian dinner together with Swedish meatballs, IKEA bread and Rodkal (Danish Red Cabbage).

I guess I wasn’t surprised when my sugars sailed in around the mid teens close to bed time. I did end up popping in a correction bolus a while before bed.
Then it hit me like a tonne of bricks.
My heart was racing, I was sweaty and shakey. Effin’ diabetes.
I was so drowsy and tired as I stumbled to get my juice box. Somehow, I had managed to put my straw in upside down so struggled to finish the juice.

Next thing I knew my alarm was going off at it was 6am. And I felt like my head was being drilled into. I knew this was more than a hypo rebound and that my body was warning me to take it easy. But I still had an awesome rest day yesterday, even if I did over do it with the carbs and diabetes kicked me in the butt overnight.

So it looks like I will be working from home again today! At least I made an effort to get out of my PJs today. But that’s a story for another time.
